About Dr. Parul Makkar

Dr Parul Dua Makkar is a dedicated advocate and educator in the field of oral health, driven by the loss of her younger brother, Dr. Manu Dua, DMD, to oral cancer at 34 years old. She devotes her time to educating doctors and patients about risk factors, prevention and the early detection and treatment of oral cancer.

A featured speaker at major dental and medical conferences, award wining author and chairs the Oral Cancer Foundations Walk to raise Oral Cancer Awerness. She also serves as the Wellness Amassador for ADA.

Dr Makkar practices general dentistry at her Long Island, NY practice. Through her advocacy, writing and speaking she has transformed oral cancer awareness country wide.

Course Synopsis:

Oral cancer is a devastating disease that affects millions worldwide, yet it often goes undetected untill it reaches an advanced stage. Despite advancments in medical and dental technology, survival rates remain low due to late diagnosis, inadequate screening  and gpas in care. This comprehenisve course is designed to equp healthcare workers with the knowledge and skills to detect diagnose and manage oral cancer. 

This course covers the basics as well as more advanced topics such as documentation of lesions, staging and treatment planning and covers new technologies and how they can be applied to oral cancer care.

Course Objective

To equip healthcare workers with the clinical knowledge, screening skills and interdisciplinary strategies necessary to detect oral cancer early, manage patients through treatments and survivorship.

Prerequisites

This course is intended for healthcare workers . While the course addresses broad interdisciplinary topics. It contains advanced clinical terminology and concepts that are best suited for those with a foundational understanding of healthcare practice.

How To Participate

The DOEC Webinar curriculum is identical in content to an in-person course. This course will be live for 1 hour and will earn you 1 credit hour for participation. A digital proof of completion will be sent via email at the time of completion.
